Have You Heard of Green Friday?

3 min read

Green Friday is  a movement that promotes more mindful shopping that is less harmful to the environment. It’s the cool sibling to Black Friday!

We all understand that every time an item is produced, it requires resources. But when we are at the store purchasing an item, we often don’t consider the resources used to make the item and how the extraction of those resources impacts the environment. Many of the resources we rely the most heavily on create greenhouse gas emissions contributing to our climate crisis. We live in a world with finite resources; if we continue to waste those resources by over-consuming, we can expect that the Earth will have trouble continuing to sustain us.

OK- no more preaching!

Here are some ways we can do Green Friday and help the planet:

Buy Used— or As We Like to Call It,  “Previously Loved”

A good used piano that has been taken care of has many years of life. By selecting a used piano, we reduce the emissions it takes to produce a new one and we keep premium goods out of the landfill. Our used piano selection can be found here.

Buy Local

Buy a digital piano from a local shop instead of online. We understand that just getting the instrument to our store is not environmentally friendly BUT can’t we at least limit the damage? A same-day shipping policy, such as Amazon Prime, leaves a larger carbon footprint than buying in-store due to the use of faster but more polluting transport like diesel trucks. It’s not much but every little change helps!

Support Manufacturers that Believe in Protecting the Environment

We are not asking you to stop buying new, we are just encouraging you to make an informed buying decision. One of our favourite quotes is by Anna Lappe – “Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want.”

There is so much power in what we buy! Mindfully and intentionally shopping with brands that are dedicated to sustainability is so important.

We believe Yamaha is one of these companies. Recognizing environmental issues is important. The Yamaha Group is committed to continuing its contribution to the realization of a better global environment based on its Yamaha Group Environmental Policy.

Yamaha is engaged in initiatives through its business activities, products, and services to respond to shared global issues such as climate change, biodiversity, and the promotion of recycling.

At the same time, Yamaha is involved in environmental conservation activities, such as the reduction of emissions of chemical substances, prevention of leaking of hazardous materials, the appropriate use of timber, forest preservation, and other activities that contribute to preserving the environment.

You can read more about Yamaha’s sustainability here:

Finally we leave you with Prince Charles philosophy of buy once and buy well. Get the best that you can afford.
