The Baldwin Acrosonic (meaning supreme tone) piano was the name given to the Baldwin firm’s top-of-the-line spinet (36 inches high) and console (42 inches high) upright pianos. This one is a CONSOLE. The soundboards in these pianos were always solid spruce soundboards which vibrated more freely than laminated (plywood) soundboards normally found in pianos this size and age. This Baldwin has a 19-ply pin block, to hold the tuning pins securely thus keeping the piano in better tune.
The cabinet? It’s in reasonable shape—if you’re into that whole “vintage and well-loved” look. As for the keys, the original owner had a stroke of genius and taped the letters right on them. Fast forward a few years, and when they finally peeled off that tape, they left some unique marks behind.
If you’re on the hunt for a piano for a beginner that sounds amazing, is very stable, and has a great touch, look no further—this one’s just fabulous! But if you’re dreaming of a pristine cabinet and a showpiece, well, you might want to keep looking because this piano is definitely not it!
